Overview Of Role

Program and Vacancy overview:

AQUITY Innovations NPC has been appointed by the National Department of Health to serve as one of the GLOBAL FUND TB Sub-Recipients (SRs) in South Africa. The project activities are being implemented in Mpumalanga (Ehlanzeni district) and Eastern Cape provinces (Buffalo City Metro and Amathole District) whilst the Head Office positions will be based in Pretoria.  

AQUITY seeks to appoint Medical Officer (*1) to be based in Amathole/ Buffalo City Municipality.

Remuneration: R110,752.18 Per month. 

Project end date: 30 September 2028. Contract is subject  to annual renewal.

Responsibilities

Management

  • Support the development of a measurable district TB programme plans and ensure alignment with overall project plans.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of performance against project objectives.
  • Compile project reports and ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities.
  • The MO will report directly to the assigned Assistant Program Manager at district level,

Technical

  • Provide capacity support for health care workers on DR/TB, TB/HIV, and TB Prevention Therapy (TPT), including capacity support on new treatment regimens (DR/TB)
  • Develop plans for capacity building schedules, mentoring and coaching for clinicians, and provide technical support for  the Digital CXR teams.
  • Provide clinical advice to health facility staff on the management of difficult or complex cases.
  • Support the TB pharmacovigilance programme and management of adverse events
  • Conduct clinical and mortality audits in selected health facilities, including hospitals.
  • Strengthen the referral systems within the district to ensure continuous uninterrupted care of patients.
  • Support the implementation and monitor adherence to the National TB Infection Control and Core Standards.
  • Support the implementation of the Differentiated Models Of Care (DMOC) programme and inclusion of TB medicines in the formularies.
  • Support hospitals to strengthen patient screening and testing in hospitals and scaling up X-pert testing around Amathole, Buffallo City Metro and OR Tambo District.
Qualification
  • MBChB degree
  • Current medical license registration with HPCSA
  • Certification on TB, and DR TB would be an advantage.
  • A valid South African driver’s license
Experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in the public health sector.
  • Experience and good understanding of the DR/TB, TB/HIV and HIV, AIDS epidemics and their clinical management thereof.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to build, lead, and motivate effective teams
  • Excellent communication skills (both interpersonal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure
