Programme and Vacancy overview:

AQUITY Innovations NPC has been appointed by the National Department of Health to serve as one of the GLOBAL FUND TB Sub-Recipients (SRs) in South Africa. The project activities are implemented in Mpumalanga (Ehlanzeni district) and Eastern Cape province (Buffalo City Metro and Amathole districts).

As such we seek to employ the following:

Radiographer (Quality Control Monitor) - Mobile and Movable DCXR Units (*1) - Amathole District

Project end date: 30 September 2028. Contract is subject  to annual renewal.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure clients sign the consent forms before Xray exposure
  • Ensure that the Ionizing Radiation (for Medical Exposure) Regulations are adhered to.
  • Record accurate patient information relating to dose and use of consumables
  • Keep accurate patient records including recording radiation dose and exposure factors.
  • Providing a high standard of radiographic chest x-ray imaging, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for reading images whilst ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and linkage to appropriate services.
  • Liaising with relevant district/sub-district management teams and facilities for planning and allocation purposes.
  • Provides support and reassurance to patients who may be unwell or have barriers to understanding.
  • Develop a sound knowledge of the equipment used to be aware of malfunctions and errors and to report them.
  • Participate in the district/sub-district and facility development of operational plans for the deployment of the mobile DCXR.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with outreach teams and facility staff
  • Liaise with the Radiologist for diagnostic and technical advice and support
  • Support referral and linkage to care for incidental CXR findings not requiring presumptive TB testing
  • Work with the team to ensure that all data is collected and verified to ensure data quality.
  • Set up and prepare for daily activities
  • Supervise the teams to ensure day-to-day direct service delivery.

Secondary responsibilities

        General Tests

  • Monitor indicator, mechanical and safety checks and document results quarterly
  • Monitor the availability and cracks of Gonad shields, lead aprons and gloves quarterly and annually
  • Monitor the appropriate technique chart display bi-annually

       X-ray Tubes and Generators

  • Ensure the alignment of the center of the Xray field and the bucky quarterly
  • Ensure that the Xray field dimensions in the plain of the image receptor correspond with those indicated by the beam-limiting device quarterly
  • Monitor congruency between Xray field and light field quarterly

       Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) Device

  • Ensure that all chambers are tested at four-month intervals
  • Monitor the sensitivity of the Computerized Radiography and Direct Digital Radiography system on acceptance and thereafter quarterly

       CR Reader

  • Monitor the dose indicator on acceptance and thereafter quarterly
  • Ensure image uniformity acceptance and thereafter quarterly
  • Monitor the conditions of cassettes and image plates quarterly

       Image display and reporting monitor

  • Ensure that the image display monitor is free from flicker bi-annually

       Reject analysis

  • Maintain a record of the rejection analysis trends
 

OBJECTIVES

  • Providing a high standard of radiographic chest x-ray imaging, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for reading images whilst ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and linkage to appropriate services.
  • Liaising with relevant district/sub-district management teams and facilities for planning and allocation purposes.
  • Communicating effectively with facility-based outreach teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality service.
  • Acquire relevant quality control manuals and compile a standard operating procedure to ensure that QC tests are correctly performed.
  • Mentor radiographers performing routine tests to ensure that they are competent to execute the tests.
  • Ensure that all the quality control tests are performed at the prescribed frequencies as stipulated in the license conditions.
  • Ensure average Dose Area Product (average dose/average time) readings are calculated and documented.
Qualification
  • National Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Current Registration with HPCSA
  • Active Private Practitioner Number
Experience
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Radiographer
  • Innovative thinking, initiative, and leadership qualities
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Package
  • Good presentation skills
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to travel and work after hours.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and district/sub-district management team.
